To help out in your endeavors, we have suggestions, alternatives, and ideas for approaching each of the squares in the Bingo card! We'll even walk through why they're on the list!

Download Boycat or NoThanks

Many of the food companies and brands we encounter on shelves everyday are complicit in Israel’s genocide in many ways. Want to make sure YOUR purchases aren’t supporting companies that have signed off on genocide? Download these apps and use them to scan a product’s barcode at a store to see who is and isn’t complicit in genocide!

Access Free Resources

Food, water, shelter, education—all of these things are basic human rights, which means no one deserves to be locked out of them because of a price tag. Reject the idea that you have to earn the right to these things by seeking out alternative resources that provide them, and more, for free, to all!

No Starbucks

Starbucks has a long history of punishing workers for demanding their rights, as well as many other unethical practices, including suppressing pro-Palestine Starbucks workers. There are many small coffee businesses that work much harder than Starbucks, without abusing their workers. Diverting money away from Starbucks isn’t just an opportunity to show a big corporation that their actions have consequences—it’s also a way to divert funds towards our own communities—and our local coffee is pretty damn good, too!

Watch a Short Film

Visual media is such a powerful tool—in the hands of the wrong people, it can become the propaganda that justifies genocide and war—but in our hands, it can provide the context for resisting those things. Find a film about a certain movement or issue, and see if you can access it for free or secondhand through a smaller business—not only does this help you to support independent filmmakers, but it also allows you to learn through the visually powerful storytelling of film.

Post or Re-Post on Social Media

Many times, activism starts by simply spreading awareness. There are people who know what is going on and don’t care, yes—but there are also people who would care but DON’T know what’s going on—and by simply posting on social media, you can turn someone who cares but doesn’t know what to do, into someone who cares and also has a plan.

Talk with a Stranger

Have you ever heard someone say ‘we need to build community’? You probably have. But communities don’t grow without new people, so the best way to actually build community is to talk to new people. It doesn’t have to be a deep conversation about horrific world realities—be it an opportunity to open up in a class, or talking to someone sitting alone, or approaching someone who seems to be in distress—community is about letting people know they belong, and we can be part of that in little ways, everyday.

Make a Sign for a Protest

Art is fun! Even if you don’t prefer going to protests, creating a sign can be a way to both channel your emotions, and a way to connect with others by having something like a poster-making event, or by making a sign and giving it to someone else! Activism can be fun, too!

Divestment Coalition Meeting

At NCSU, there is a coalition of different social-justice organizations (Dissenters, YDSA, Decarb, SJP, Workers Union, and CCAEJ) that have come together to research what kinds of financial investments NCSU has—and how those investments may be related to unethical practices around the globe. This coalition wants the university to spend less money on unethical practices, and more on supporting us, its students—this benefits all of us. So come join one of our coalition meetings!

Think about your biggest goal or passion, and how school has helped you get there—and then try to imagine what it would be like if your opportunity to go to school had been taken away without your control. You wouldn’t care any less about your dream. Displaced students have just as many dreams, and we can stand with all our fellow students by recognizing that all dreams are worth supporting.

No Target

You have probably seen Target’s commercials that try to paint an image of diversity and inclusion—but while they’re hiring actors of color to tokenize them and make themselves look good, they’re firing workers of color to appease the anti-DEI agenda. These workers deserve our support—consider looking towards alternatives to Target!

No Amazon

Amazon can be really convenient—but while that convenience may be cheap to us, it comes at a grave cost to its workers. Amazon workers are forced to do horrifically long hours in order to accommodate the fast-shipping promises of the company. Amazon workers have died on the job because of this. Amazon packages coming quickly to your door would not be possible without abuse of workers—so plan out what you may need to purchase more ahead of time so that you don’t have to worry about fast shipping and can get it from an alternative source!

Read a Book about Politics

Politics is not just a high, lofty conversation that happens in the White House. It is an everyday conversation about the things impacting us. Think about an issue that matters to you, or one you’ve been hearing about and don’t understand much about, and look up books about it—and then check to see if any local libraries might have those books!

Free Space

Every Bingo players' best friend! Feel free to check this box and continue on.

Spread Resources

Have you heard about a cool resource in your community—maybe a mutual aid campaign, a free service, or an educational resource? Send it to your friends, club groupchats, and let other people know about it in person! The more we share resources, the more likely it is that they’ll reach the people who need them, but might’ve been scared to ask for them.

Support Alternative Transport

The cities we live in now were largely designed for cars—but not only do cars contribute largely to pollution, they are also not the most practical way of transportation for people in cities. Public transportation is, at its heart, a system of mutual aid: it makes transit (ideally) accessible to all—investing in it can help you in your daily routine AND can help invest in a public system that often helps our unhoused siblings.

Avoid Companies Suporting Genocide

As might be clear from some of these other bingo squares, there's a lot of companies that don't care about our right to our livelihoods, nor about the ongoing genocide. In fact, they stand to gain a lot from ethnic cleansing. Find some companies that are complicit and try and find alternatives in your day-to-day life. Apps like Boycat and NoThanks can help with finding some companies like this.

Some notable companies that are being boycotted right now are: Reebok, Chevron, Cisco, HP, Amazon, Airbnb, and Disney!

Go to a Mutual Aid Hub

A mutual aid hub is a center/space/group based in a certain area that provides a range of mutual aid resources to the community in which it is based. This includes, but is not limited to, access to food, water, shelter, free services, healthcare, and more. There is one called the Raleigh United Mutual Aid Hub (RUMAH), on Hillsborough Street! (415 Hillsborough Street).

Read about Liberation Struggles

There are so many liberation struggles around the world right now, and every single one of them matters. Look up places like West Papua, Kanaky, Kashmir, Tigray, and more—take time to learn about a freedom struggle you may not have heard much (or anything) about—it is by learning about all these individual struggles that we start to connect the dots and realize that there truly is no such thing as just one struggle—none of us are free until all of us are free!

Avoid Generative AI for a Week

We have all been at a point where an assignment seemed too difficult—but we’ve also all gotten through those moments before—and when you did get through them, didn’t it feel good to know that, despite the difficulty, you were able to achieve something? The value of human effort and satisfaction from achieving something of your own work, is priceless, and it’s something that’s always worth it! Plus, AI centers are actively displacing communities and taking up the water sources of surrounding communities—so there’s that too!

Research Settler Colonialism

Colonialism has shaped the world we are in today. In our context in the United States, it was not just general colonialism, but settler colonialism. In order to better understand the issues in our world, and to be able to better support indigenous communities, we need to understand how we got here. Learn about what settler colonialism is so you can start to act against it in your everyday life!

Use Alternative News Sources

Often times, mainstream news sources have two main issues: they have parent companies that have a vested interest in a certain political narrative, meaning the journalism isn’t independent; and, independent journalists themselves get marginalized and repressed. Independent journalism avoids this: it doesn’t allow for censorship, and supports the work of freelance journalists who do incredible labor to share the truth.

Check out platforms like Ground News! They provide news stories alongside bias analyses of the reporting.

Convince Someone to Go No-Starbucks

Do you have a Starbucks routine with a friend but want to go no Starbucks? Make a new tradition with your friend by introducing them to another local coffee option, and make it a bonding experience! Boycotts don’t have to be awkward—they can be an invitation for personal growth, both on one’s own, and in your friendships!

Wear a Keffiyeh around Campus

A simple thing to do to support Palestinian solidarity. There are people in our community who are dealing with this genocide everyday—you never know how much joy it might bring one of them to see someone else out and about to remind them that they’re not alone.

Find an Open-Source Textbook

Knowledge is not something that you have to earn the right to—at least, it shouldnt be. The fact that many traditional textbooks are so expensive shows that the industry prioritizes prestige over equitable access. Finding an open source textbook is not just helpful for your bank account—it’s a way to reclaim your intrinsic human right to knowledge and learning.

Save the Siembra Hotline

Siembra NC does spectacular work in keeping our immigrant communities safe. They run a hotline where folks can report any suspicious activity and if there seems to be a risk, they'll send out ICE verifiers to check if the risk is real or not. If it is, they'll keep an eye on the situation and alert nearby community members!

Their hotline isn't only for ICE verification, though. They also direct people to relevant legal resources and provide other forms of community support.

You can keep the Siembra Hotline number saved as a favorite on your phone in case of emergencies for you or you loved ones: +1 (336) 543-0353.
